And the Seahorse is PORTABLE!

For today, from photo reference on Google Images:

More on the seahorse tomorrow, I think.
The background contains fluorish brushes made by user Nadnouda on Deviant Art, which I used as stamps.
From yesterday:

“Box of Rain” is my favorite Grateful Dead song. Even though it makes very little sense to me. It’s one of those songs where you just feel the meaning. It seems to be about figuring out life problems, but the box of rain in the song is probably something you’d have to be on drugs in the 70s to appreciate.
Why all the Grateful Dead lately? I don’t know. I don’t even like them that much, though American Beauty was definitely a good album.
I’m trying to get in the habit of doing a daily ACEO card.

I used smoke brushes made by ro-stock on Deviant Art, and I think I got a bit carried away. But oh well. Maybe it’s just a particularly foggy day!
Inspired by the Grateful Dead song “Truckin’” which I listened to a live version of this morning after I tracked it down as a reference in the MST3K short “Posture Pals.” I was watching that short and the one titled “Speech: Platform Posture and Appearance” (riffed version in the Red Zone Cuba episode) as references for a silly forum art piece I did to entertain my fellow MSTies. If you’re curious about that, it’s here: pretty funny
if you have noticed the posture of the Titans as they riff movies in the shadowrama theater.
This Cat and Girl comic pretty much sums up how I feel these days:
And yet, I’m also considering going back, albeit for different reasons than the first time.
This has to be the coolest contest idea I’ve ever seen. io9.com is accepting creature ideas based on real scientific research or sci fi speculation, and the winner of the more reality-based category gets a trip to Hong Kong to attend the Synthetic Biology Conference. And the winner of the more speculative category gets their creature drawn by a professional comic artist.
Kinda makes me wish I had taken the more rigorous Biology class in college instead of going with easier Astronomy and Entomology classes. But maybe I’ll learn a thing or two by digging through the BioBricks registry.
★ Guitar Hero On Tour — I’ve been missing out on Guitar Hero for a very long time, and I think it was genius to make it portable. I’m not 100% sure I’ll like the control interface, but this is the most convenient way for me to play Guitar Hero.
★ The World Ends With You — I studied abroad in Tokyo in 2005. Since this game is set in Shibuya, I know I would get nostalgic. Again, the controls are very innovative and I am not sure whether I would find controlling two characters at once to be fun or tedious, but I am willing to give it a go.
★ Taiko Drum Master DS — I don’t think there’s an English version of this yet. I’d really rather import it anyway. I’m a sucker for drumming games.
★ Oendan 2 — Another import, methinks. I still play the first Ouendan game occasionally, but I’m stuck on Ready Steady Go on the second difficulty level. Whether or not I ever unlock the female cheer squad, I need more songs! And I think the spinners were more fair in the second game.
★ Daigasso Band Brothers expansion pack — Again, I need more songs! Another music game I play when I need to meditate. It really reminds me of those mini finger piano toys they made when I was a little kid. Because of both the cheesy MIDI sound and because it is a handheld digital instrument.
I posted a favorite Muppet Show clip, but it seems already to have been taken down. So, I’ll make this entry instead to be a running list of movies I can come back to later.
* The Van (1977)– Supposedly a good college sex comedy, and it features the one hit wonder song “Chevy Van” as well as the first screen appearance of Danny DeVito.
* Patton — I need to see George C. Scott in something other than Doctor Strangelove, and this would open a ton of MST3K references for me.
* 1984 (1956) — I had no idea there was a 50s production. I only saw the remake.
* Young at Heart — I have a bad feeling, but I want to validate. Maybe it’s actually good!
* 1776 — Someone made a musical about the Declaration of Independence?
* Let It Ride — a sentimental day at the races with Richard Dreyfuss
* Stuart Saves His Family — file under morbid curiosity
* Death Race 2000 — In addition to being a terrible Roger Corman movie, there was a horrible video game of this.
* The Jerk — I’m fairly sure I’ve seen it, but I feel like refreshing my memory.
* It’s Alive — Either the 1975 Larry Cohen movie about a giant mutant baby, or something much worse directed by Larry Buchanen (better known for Attack of the the Eye Creatures). It’s cinematic Russian roulette!
* The Paper Chase TV series (late 70s to 1983) — I’ve seen the movie, but I didn’t realize there was a TV series that ran for four seasons. I will want to watch this when I have some more distance and nostalgia between me and my own college years.
